Advocacy: The Backbone of Your Membership

With a combined population of over 11 million people, the Carolinas are a booming economic force and it’s important that the industry stays well-represented as those in state government make laws and rules that impact the industry. CFIC’s well-respected lobbying team navigates the halls of the legislature to ensure that grocers have a voice on issues that matter most. CFIC’s goal is to maintain an environment that benefits both grocers and consumers and also keep grocers informed about changing laws and regulations.

State Legislative Issues

CFIC’s government relations teams work with lawmakers and their staffs, other advocacy groups and state regulators to find practical solutions for issues affecting the grocery industry. CFIC organizes grassroots lobbying and works to ensure passage of positive legislation and the defeat of laws that impede retail store operations.

Regulatory Issues

CFIC works with regulatory agencies in both states on issues such as taxes, food safety, WIC, SNAP, lottery, and alcoholic beverage sales.

Emergency Management

CFIC has established relationships with a the emergency management agencies in both states. Because of these relationships, CFIC can provide members with real-time information during natural or man-made disasters and facilitate partnerships for relief and recovery efforts.

Political Action Committees

Maintaining a good business climate in North and South Carolina helps keeps jobs in-state. CFIC’s two nonpartisan political action committees (PACs) helps support elected officials and candidates who understand and promote the interest of the business community.
