Report: Retailers added 20,800 jobs in Sept.

U.S. retailers accounted for 20,800 of the 148,000 jobs created last month, with discounters and department stores adding staff while specialty apparel retailers cut positions, according to the Labor Department. “Americans need to believe we are on a solid path out of this troubled economy and so far, they haven’t been given any reason to believe that, thus impacting their spending decisions and retailers’ ability to increase their payrolls,” NRF Chief Economist Jack Kleinhenz said.
