Grocery stores look to cater to male customers
Supermarkets are increasingly focusing on products that are gender-neutral or that appeal to men as research shows that men are doing more grocery shopping for their households than ever. Marketers theorize this is due in part to the recession and the number of men laid off and in part to the growing popularity among men of cooking at home. “We’re seeing a lot of men who are stay-at-home dads, working from home or looking for a job,” said ConAgra Foods industry analyst Phil Lempert.
